Psychology
Both sides probed and both were rejected; the market closed near where it opened despite real travel. In a trend, it's the momentum equivalent of an engine sputter — usually minor, occasionally the first sputter before the stall.
Recognition
Small real body (either color) roughly centered, with notable upper AND lower wicks. Distinguished from the doji by having a real (if small) body.
Confirmation
Alone it means little — a cluster of them after a long trend, or one at a major level, warrants watching the resolution bar. The break of the spinning top's range gives direction.
Reliability
